ANNOUNCEMENT: Jason Deem moving on | GdM looking for new cover artist

It’s been an unbelievable four years working with Jason Deem, but unfortunately for GdM and our fans our wonderful cover artist has decided it’s time to move on. He’s produced a tall stack of excellent covers, really nailing down the theme of our ezine. My favourite work by Jason, to this day, remains the cover he drew up for the second edition of Grimdark Magazine #1 featuring one of  my all-time favourite characters Red Kent from Mark Lawrence’s Broken Empire story Bad Seed.

I’d say this is closely followed by the covers he drew up for Deb Wolf’s Cry Wolf in GdM Issue #11, Anthony Ryan’s The Lady of Crows in GdM Issue #10, and Michael R. Fletcher’s At the Walls of Sinnlos in GdM Issue #6.

Jason, mate, I’m going to miss working with you. I tip my pint to you. It’s been fun.

However, the show must (hopefully!) go on.

GdM is looking for a new cover artist

We are looking to link up with one cover artist on an on-going right-of-first refusal arrangement with quarterly jobs ongoing until we decide to pull up stumps. You’ll get one short story from from me for an issue, will pick 2-3 scenes you think you can represent in the way Jason has above, I’ll pick one and you’ll have 2-3 weeks to turn it around.

We’re currently paying $150AUD a cover for non-exclusive work, but I am happy to have a discussion with the right artist about rates.

If you’re interested, please reach out to me at adrian@grimdarkmagazine.com. Please provide your previous works as examples.
